Everyone’s Already Doing it
That’s what I saw, heard, see, and hear now.
Sara and Sandra had great ideas and wanted to start their own businesses. As they started to work at them, people started saying things like, “Darcy is already doing that.” “Haven’t you seen xxxx website? She has the same things on her site.” “Everyone’s already doing it. What makes you different? You’ll have to work 10 hours a day and even then it’s not guaranteed that you’ll make it.” “So and so already has a huge following, no one’s going to buy yours because she’s being doing it for a long time, so everyone knows her.”
Sara started surfing the web and checking out all the other people doing similar businesses. The more she checked out other people’s websites, the more discouraged she got. They had subtitles like, Innovator and Influencer and said things like, “You too can become a millionaire like me,” and on and on the list went. She wondered why anyone would want to buy from her when there are already amazing websites are out there doing what she wants to do. She tried to get involved in groups online that would help her, but she just got even more discouraged. If she wanted the help she really needed, she’d have to pay to be in a mastermind group and/or pay for a coach. Eventually, Sara gave up.
Sandra on the other hand surfed the web a little and then went to work on her business. First she did little things that were her passion and built up her offline and online inventory and following. At the same time she wrote blog posts and found places that accept guest blog posts. Additionally, she joined a local networking group and got some encouragement there.
She was PATIENT, took her time, and progressed one step at a time, building a following. It took her a while to find her voice, but she stayed steady. After a while, she joined a mastermind group, got a coach, and away she went.

Can you see the difference between these two women?
Sara listened to all the naysayers and allowed herself to be intimidated by all the other businesses who appeared to be doing well. She had no proof that the subtitles were real or not or if in fact these businesses were making a good living. She just believed from what she saw and read on their websites.
Sandra on the other hand took a look to see what was out there but didn’t expend her energy and time worrying about what others were doing. She got a little background information to help her know where things were going in the market.
The key difference is that Sandra focused inward, on herself and on what she loved doing. She also focused on what she believed in and didn’t pay attention to others.
These are two fictional stories based on many years of experience in business and business groups. And everyone’s not already doing it. Only “some” are already doing it. However, I’ve heard it all. I’ve even fallen into a trap or two, but I keep going.
Philippians 3:13-14 (NIV)
13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
My cousin once said to me, “There are billions of people in the world and only millions of businesses. There’s plenty of business for everyone. Just go for it.”
If what you want to do is something you believe in and enjoy doing, who cares what other people think? As long as you can afford it, have time for it, and are excited about it, give it a shot. You’ll never know the outcome until you try.
