A Colored Pencils Review
With new pencils and pens in hand and the choice of an easy page, here is my On a Roll With colored pencils review! As of the coloring of this picture, I had not received my Enchanted Forest: An Inky Quest & Coloring Book by Johanna Basford yet, so I am still in the Nature Mandalas Coloring Book by Design Originals.
I was truly the Patient Woman when I started this page. I am so proud of myself. If you read my other two blog posts you will see how hard it was for me (LOL). So I really am on a roll with coloring and doing a colored pencil review to help others as they have helped me.
Here are my other two blog posts:

I tried one of every medium I just purchased on the latest coloring page, including the Prisma pastels, so here are
My Recommendations
Prismacolor Premier 79 Piece Mixed Media Set
1. Pastels (Art Stix)– Worked nicely, however, you cannot color over the pastel very well after putting it on the paper. The other issue was the black from the paper transferred to the pastel stick. Other than that, I cannot wait to work on a background of pastels to highlight the picture.
2. Watercolor Pencils – The lead is not as creamy as the plain colored pencils but has a bright look and works nicely. Some of the blue was completed with watercolors. I tried putting just a dab of water as I used them to blend but wanted a little different color. So I added the plain colored pencil as well.
3. Verithin – I used blue, pink, and red Verithins to get into the small areas of the flowers. I used the green for the thin areas in the grass. I used yellow for the tiny area surrounding the pink. They work well and the lead is harder than the regular colored pencils.
4. Colored – I used these for the majority of the page. As you can see in the light orange snail that is not finished yet (below), I put a light layer. I will then lightly blend it. After, I used a light brown colored pencil to draw a little swirl or two following the snail shell lines.
5. Prisma Blending Pencil – I pressed too hard in the center of the page where it is a darker pink. Some of it burnished instead of blending. Once I started pressing a little lighter it worked well. I tend to blend a lot. I like the way it looks.

6. These were really pretty. But, after starting to use them in the bright yellow in the flowers, I realized they were pilling the paper a little. I tried going lighter, but it did not make a difference. It could be the paper of the coloring book. I will try them on the Enchanted Forest Coloring Book.
Staedtler Triplus Fineliner Pens
7. Loved these and used them in the tiny areas like the dots in the flowers and snails eyes and antennae. They worked like a charm.
As for the snails, I am using two different colors for the snails. I may consider adding a background, but since my Enchanted Forest: An Inky Quest & Coloring Book by Johanna Basford arrived, I almost want to call this done after I complete the snails and get started on that one.
I LOVE hearing what others use and to see how they color. Please share in the comments below so I can enjoy your work with you. 🙂
