Patience is something many people struggle with. As I pondered what it means to be patient, this poem started bouncing around in my head as I would lay down to sleep. Several days after this started, I finally got out of bed in the middle of the night and wrote it down. As I went to sleep each night for the next three nights, the poem took it’s form.
On the road to patience
So many days were a bumpy ride
Life is a long journey
I tried, but I just can’t hide
On the road to patience
Traveled up many steep hills
Down windy paths – little did I know
Only God could heal my ills
On the road to patience
I learned a lot
Didn’t have to be so difficult
I could have been taught
On the road to patience
Childhood years as a duck
Lots of heartache in the pond
Didn’t think of it as back luck
On the road to patience
Teen years were lonely, confusing
Kids were cruel and unkind
I had fun, didn’t know I was losing
On the road to patience
Early adult years as a mom and wife
Kids, laughter, and song
Smiled through hardships with God in my life
On the road to patience
Lost my way
Have to start all over
It’s just another day
On the road to patience
Adult years put others before me
Kept humming along
Didn’t know any better, nor did I see
On the road to patience
I begged the Lord for peace
I didn’t truly understand
All I had to do was release
