Journey Of The Busy Woman
Getting Back On Track

Saturday Journey 2/8/14

Getting and staying organized is not always easy. I’m working on getting back on track. Today I’m redoing my planner “again.” Every season of life tends to change things. I’m working from home again and to be honest, it’s different this time. Before, I had teenagers at home, a fast paced business, in addition to household responsibilities. There were others that required my time. Now that everyone’s moved out, it’s just my better half, and me. I don’t “have to” be anywhere in particular other than a doctor’s appointment, or if we buy tickets to go to a show. For example, today, I woke up at 10am (don’t judge, it’s Saturday for goodness sake), got a cup of coffee and piece of toast when the phone rang. “Hi there… want to go for lunch in a few?” “Let me put my toast and coffee down, get dressed, and I’ll be over.”

I’ve been working on a new schedule for the last 4 or 5 months, and this time, it isn’t as easy to get back on track. For one thing, I’m older and quite honestly, I’m not as hyper as I used to be. Second, if something fun comes up, I drop everything if I want to. Third, I wake up much too late in the morning (sometimes afternoon) for my liking. (It’s just so fun to stay up late with hubby, watching movies.) Some may think this is the perfect life. Me, I want… no I need, a schedule that keeps me busy during a specific time frame with clear absolutes, such as down time.

The old planner pages I was trying to use turned out to be too much for this phase of life. Inside, I had most of the pages I used back when (see photo for comparison). I was also using my red snap binder with all of the credit card pockets and 1 ¼ inch binder rings. I pulled everything out and sifted through; looking for the absolute minimum amount of pages I would feel comfortable with. I ended up using a soft “plain” leather binder in navy blue, with 1-inch rings.

Today was a day of taking my time, going through pages, organizing, and meditating on what was best for me, at THIS moment in time, and here’s what I ended up using:

For me — I just need change from time to time to make things NEW. I just get board I guess, so at least yearly I need to change things up. — a form of ADD I guess. LOL

Doesn’t sound like ADD. Just sounds like you need a change every now and again. LOL Sometimes we need to start new, fresh, and clean. 🙂

Do you have any thoughts on classic versus monarch sized planners? Also, suggestions on the best way to use the weekly planner pages?

I guess I should clarify that… I’ve used the classic size for 2 decades. I have seriously been considering switching to full page and then using a comb binding rather than 3 hole punch. I appreciate that you are sharing your transition… since I am in a similar situation and am working to adjust the way I plan now that my lifestyle and schedule are so dramatically different.

Thanks Kandas! It sometimes takes a few weeks to figure out what’s best for our own personal needs. But I’m definitely back to the compact size.

I tried using the Monarch size. It was okay for some things but not okay for others. Then I went back to the Classic Size for a short time while working out of the home. Now I’m back to the compact size. I need to carry it with me and it has to be light.

Oddly enough, I’m back to the classic size as I don’t have enough room in the compact size for my work from home business schedule. If it’s too big or bulky after a while, I may end up back to daily pages. We shall see…
